An intuitive design sense allows GR Visser Architecture, Inc. to bring homes from an abstract concept to a grounded, family-focused space
Throughout a lifetime, a home necessitates different things, and a forever home for a young family should grow alongside them. Such requests and more are top of mind for GR Visser Architecture, Inc. Spearheaded by registered architect Gretchen Visser, her eponymous fi rm provides methodical designs that touch the heart. “I strive to listen and understand what clients are hoping to achieve, even if they don’t have the lingo,” she says. “People often say that I was able to help them figure out what they didn’t even know they wanted.” Working harmoniously with contractors early in the design process allows the fi rm to prioritize budget, time, and clear communication. “I operate my fi rm in the manner in which I would want an architect to work for me,” Visser notes. Integrated naturally with surrounding extraordinary views of the Cascades is one of the fi rm’s recent projects, the Cle Elum residence. Rusticity and modernity are blended in the home through reclaimed wood, steel beams, concrete, and glass while open common areas fulfill the client’s desire to have plenty of accommodation for visitors. Providing such attentive design services is its own reward for Visser and her team, and they share in the joy of finalized plans right alongside their clients. “When I provide a schematic sketch, it feels like Christmas morning, as I’m so excited to show it to my clients,” concludes Visser. “I have had a few clients end up in tears because we can help accomplish what they’re hoping for, which is fun and very rewarding.”
